REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school diploma.

2. Graduate of an accredited Nebraska Health Aide program

3. Certification in CPR and Basic First Aid.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and effectively communicate with other health professionals.

2. Remain calm in stressful and emergency situations.

3. Provide a variety of strategies in working with students.

4. Maintain flexibility in day-to-day dealing with staff.

5. Maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding students and staff.

REPORT TO: Supervisor of School Health Services & Director of Student Services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Job Goal: The Health Aide provides care within the school setting, which includes administering medications, providing first aid services, and maintaining health records under the supervision of a licensed profession! al nurse.

Job Goal/Organization:

  • ! Provide direct health care to students/staff to include: administer prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with health standards and take vital signs as needed.
  • Perform necessary first aid duties based on techniques and training, implement procedures within ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines; use training skills to recognize problems, recommend solutions in accordance with guidelines under the direction of the Coordinator of Health Services and school protocol.
  • Collect data pertaining to student health needs. Provide care based on protocols and plans of care established by the Coordinator of Health Services.
  • Monitor and report communicable conditions and changes in student/staff health conditions within the school setting to Coordinator of Health Services.
  • Participate in the health screening process as requested by the Coordinator of Health Services.
  • Observe, record, and document health office informatio! n including student and staff health office visits, medication administration, controlled substance count per school district protocol, student health records, immunizations, screening summaries and monthly reports as requested by the Coordinator of Health Services, and other data as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain health office supply inventory.
  • Ensure blood borne pathogen protocol is met within the Health Service Office.
  • Send screening referrals and communicate with parents/guardians.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by Coordinator of Health Services.
