Contributes to the fulfillment of GSH/Nursing’s mission and vision by planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, and improving care deli! very, programs, policies and standards, outcomes, and management systems. Provides administration, direction, coordination and leadership to departmental staff and organizational priorities. Functions as a staff and patient advocate within an environment of service excellence. Advances a professional practice environment within a shared governance system. Facilitates appropriate stewardship of resources. Maintains compliance with JCAHO and other certifying/regulatory bodies. Has 24-hour accountability for department. May be requested to act for the Vice President in his/her absence

Essential Duties

1. Provides ongoing direction and guidance for nursing areas, including employment/discharge, performance assessment, skill and behavioral competency assessments and validation, orientation and training, counseling and appraisal, and role development. Works to optimize staff potential and retain qualified, competent, and engaged employees.

2. Develops a! nd accomplishes nursing and departmental strategic and operati! onal goals.

3. Facilitates the continuous and timely availability of nursing services to patients through effective staffing systems, clinical and education services, and appropriate recruitment and retention efforts.

4. Implements and monitors clinical standards of nursing care and practice based on current nursing research, evolving best practices, and nationally recognized professional standards. Monitors outcomes and takes actions as appropriate to facilitate the provision of safe and therapeutically effective nursing care.

5. Facilitates the design and implementation of clinical and organizational programs and initiatives based on patient/community need, strategic plan, and/or organization and physician interest. Assures a line of sight with the mission, critical success factors, and value enhancement initiatives.

6. Develops and supports a departmental, nursing, and organizational culture that embraces service excellence for hospita! l staff, physicians, and community (patients and families within their cultural context).

7. Develops the Planetree philosophy of patient-centered care within the department and organization.

8. Facilitates an environment of ongoing performance improvement. Utilizes the PDCA model in monitoring and improving outcomes. Effectively utilizes statistical tools and methods to communicate and measure results.

9. Appropriately stewards the resources of the Health System to assure quality care outcomes within the context of the approved budget. Utilizes best practice information to continually work to improve operational results. Develops annual capital, operational, and staffing budgets based on historical trends, benchmarks, volumes, patient populations and needs.

10. Collects and utilizes appropriate data in decision making and outcomes reporting. Analyzes variances and takes corrective actions as needed to achieve results.

11. Develo! ps strong working relationships with the medical staff to assure collab! oration on practice issues and patient care outcomes.

12. Collaborates with nursing and hospital leadership in designing, providing, evaluating, and improving patient care/services and organizational systems. Promotes a team environment that supports staff, physicians, and patient and family-centered care.

13. Supports the CHI/GSHS Mission and values with internal and external contacts.

14. Develops and/or participates in activities that promote and advance community health.

15. Develops strong supportive relationships with area nursing colleges (instructors and students).

16. Assumes responsibility for duties and projects that may be assigned by the VPPC or other executive team member.

Qualifications

Education:
Graduate of an accredited RN Program.

Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

Director, Behavioral Health requires Masters Degree in Nursing or academic plan to complete within one year! .

Certification in area of specialty preferred.

Licensure:
Current licensure to practice in the state of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse.

Individual is responsible to maintain a current nursing license.

BLS certification within 3 months of employment.

Aggression Management Training within 3 months of employment.

Experience:
Three years progressive management/nursing leadership experience.

Recent hospital experience.

Director experience in a similar size organization preferred.

Personal values and ethics consistent with the CHI/Organizational Mission.

Strong belief in service excellence and patient-centered care.

Program development and project management preferred.

Prior experience with a professional practice model (i.e., shared governance) and philosophy preferred.

Strong financial, analytical, and budgetary skills preferred
