Certified Nursing Assistant - Medication Aide

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and/or Office Manager, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) works in collaboration with the physician/! provider to coordinate the flow of patients through the provider's offices. Ensuring appropriate patient confidentiality and in a professional manner, the CNA assists with medical procedures and performs general duties for the physician/provider according to established policies and procedures. Assists with clerical duties as needed.
Job Function :
Expanded scope of practice with current placement on the Nebraska Medication Aide Registry through required course work and examination Registered as a Medication Aide, Medication Aide-20 hour or Medication Aide-40 hour according to course taken and examination Demonstrates competency in the following: Providing medications according to the five rights Recording/documenting medication provision Observing, monitoring, reporting and otherwise taking appropriate actions regarding desired effects, side effects, interactions and contraindications associated with the medications May provide routine medications (freque! ncy, amount, strength and method of administration of medicati! on are specifically fixed) by the following routes: Oral, Inhalation, Topical and Instillation (eyes, ears and nose) May provide optional additional activities with demonstrated/documented competency and under the direction and monitoring of a licensed nurse or provider: PRN medications, Gastrostomy tube administration, vaginal or rectal administration and subcutaneous, intradermal and intramuscular injections
Prerequisites :
High School Diploma and successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant training program Certified as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Nebraska Two plus years physician office experience preferred Current CPR certification Overtime may be required Computer skills required Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills through professional journals, in-services, conferences, workshops and/or seminars Attend and participates in approved/requested committees and meetings Flexibility in adjusting to variable workload and job duti! es Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written communication skills in multiple relationships with variety of cultural and social backgrounds
