Staff Care Specialist - NVH

Under general supervision of a licensed nurse, provides basic nursing care, administers medications, and applies treatments for Veteran's Home members within the scope of the Nebraska Medication Aide Act, State of Nebraska Nursing Assistant regulations, and Veteran's Affairs regulations and trains, mentors, coaches and assists with orientation of Staff Care Technicians; perform related work as assigned.

Work schedule : 2:00pm to 10:30pm; working every other weekend

Examples of Work:
Will serve as a mentor for new Nursing Assistants and Medication Aides. Be a role model; provide geriatric nursing care, medication and treatments. Perform routine nursing duties involved in the general and/or extensive care of elderly, mentally, and physically incapacitated members in the Veterans Home under direct supervision of a Nurse Supervisor. Work closely with and act as assistant to RN or LPN in coordinating services to members.

Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Be at least 18 years of age, completed a state approved 76 hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program, be listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry, be certified as a Medication Aide, and possess a total of six months combined work experience as a Nurse Aide AND as a Medication Aide.

OTHER: Ability to successfully utilize proper body mechanics for heavy lifting. Ability to do heavy lifting (40 lbs â€" floor to waist, 30 lbs â€" waist to shoulder, 50 lbs push and 100 lbs pull) on a daily basis. Ability to stoop, bend, reach overhead and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift. Must be able to lift member/patients weighing up to 300 pounds with either mechanical or staff/co-worker assistance.
