Under the supervision of the Unit Director, assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the care of all assigned patients. Cares for patients with a variety of acute to critical medical/surgical problems ranging from infants to geriatrics at various developmental levels. Patients are from both traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of sociocultural and educational backgrounds.
Essential Duties:
Uses the nursing process to provide patient care: Evaluates physical and psychosocial status of patients, formulates a plan of care, implements patient care identified in the care plan according to established standards, and recognizes changes and makes revisions as necessary.
Manages acutely ill patients not requiring Intensive Care admission, but requiring more acute care than provided on the medical surgical units.
Assigns, coordinates and/or directs care given by other nursing staff in the Clinical Managers absence. Identifies when other unit personnel need assistance and offers help.
Records care given, status of patient, physicians' orders and so forth onto patient chart and plan of care.
Assists with orientation of new personnel and serves as a resource person by answering questions, instructing in policy and procedures and so forth.
Recommends additions and modifications of standard criteria that are used in performance improvement assessments. Using these criteria, does evaluation and monitoring of patient care by conducting regular performance improvement activities through examining patient charts, visiting with patients and so forth. Develops and implements plans to resolve P.I. problems in unit.
Documents for Code Blue/Blue Jays throughout the hospital.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and evidence based practice by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences, research council and the like.
Qualifications
Education:
Knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of an accredited school of nursing to be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Nebraska. BSN degree preferred.
Licensure:
Current Nebraska license as a Registered Nurse. ACLS certification required within six months of hire.
