Conifer is currently hiring for full time Patient Access Representative.

Hours

Week 1: Monday 8:30A - 4:30P, Friday (hours vary, day shift), Saturday 8:30A! - 4:30P

Week 2: Sunday 8:30A - 4:30P, Wednesda! y 8:30A - 4:30P, Friday (hours vary, day shift)

General Summary

This position contributes to the mission and vision of Alegent Health by performing a wide variety of job duties accurately, completely, and timely. Within the scope of practice, performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties for patients across the system. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for maximizing hospital reimbursement by utilizing sound knowledge to coordinate admissions, procedures, and testing in the most appropriate health care setting. Maintains a thorough knowledge of all insurance requirements to ensure that precertification and referral authorization is obtained from contracted insurance payers within Alegent. Coordinates with ancillary department programs. Upholds patient confidentiality and rights. Recognizes patients immediate needs and acts appropriately to meet their needs. Projects a caring and professional attitude towards patients, physici! ans, physician office staff, visitors, co-workers and all Alegent personnel.

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for the registration of patients and coordination of bed assignments and all aspects of these processes. The department serves all Nursing departments and ancillary services within the hospital.

The incumbent reports directly to the Registration Manager and works collaboratively with management and staff to achieve departmental and system objectives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Registers patients according to departmental guidelines. Conducts patient interviews in a HIPAA compliant manner to obtain data required to initiate and/or complete inpatient, emergency room and outpatient records including verification of all demographic, employment, retirement, accident and insurance information to ensure accuracy. Determines coordination of benefits. Ensure insurance precertification, referral, and authorization! requirements have been met for commercial, government and worker's com! pensation payers. Obtains authorization signatures for consent to treatment, release of information, financial responsibility, and those required by special insurance carriers. Follows up on obtaining any required information that is unavailable at the time of registration.

Scans insurance cards, referrals, consents and patient Ids into document imaging software.

Adheres to patient safety policy by assuring patient validation of name, birth date and physician on printed documents.

Follows EMTALA guidelines for Emergency Department registrations and coordinates initial patient contact with triage nurse. When patient identification is questionable, follows registration procedures for "Doe" patient and revises information as soon as possible. Registers, maintains requirements, and completes appropriate paperwork for "Occupational Health" contractual clients.

Uses problem solving skills to verify patient identification through requesting phot! o ID, querying patient name, spouse names, SSN, DOB and address in order to identify and minimize duplicate medical records. Uses name search pathway according to policy. Creates or selects appropriate case and performs the appropriate registration function.

Determines and collects co-pays and designated amount of patient portion as required by hospital department. Counts and balances cash drawer, and follows department process for all monies collected

Complies with Medicare/Tricare requirements for in-patients, surgery, and emergency department patients: provides the Important Message from Medicare/Tricare and completes the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire for all Medicare patients. When applicable, explains ABN notice and obtains enrollee's signature.

Performs chart assembly, stamping/labeling of charts for registration as designated by the service to be rendered and distributes patient information to the appropriate areas in a timely mann! er.

Competent in ability to explain and answer all questions c! oncerning the Consent For Treatment and Patient Rights and Responsibilities. Understands the appropriateness of securing required signatures on documents. Presents patients with a Patient Handbook and informs patient of their rights.

Knowledgeable and adheres to all federal guidelines regarding patient registration and reimbursement. Understands inpatient/outpatient reimbursement and requirements of guidelines per Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial payers. Maintains current knowledge of insurance codes, service codes, patient types, and registration processes.

Promotes the Alegent Mission and demonstrates Alegent Commitments in all interactions with patients, visitors, and coworkers. Displays a professional, caring attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians, physician office staff, co-workers and all medical center departments. Greets patients and visitors in a friendly, helpful manner. Notifies patients and their visitors of hospital regu! lations, services, and policies relative to the type of visit and service to be rendered. Utilizes this knowledge to give HIPAA compliant information and directions when routing patients and/or visitors.

Performs general office duties including filing, data entry, requisitioning of office supplies. Performs routine maintenance to office equipment. Answers incoming phones according to Alegent guidelines in a polite and professional manner.

Makes a positive contribution to the work of the entire department. Fosters positive staff relations; is receptive to change; demonstrates willingness to be part of a team; and demonstrates the ability to work within Alegent system.

Adheres to department policies and procedures and participates in department quality improvement processes. Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings, in service programs and continuing education programs.

Qualifications

:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Education:
One year post secondary education with emphasis in medical related classes preferred. Equivalent experience in customer service related or medical field will be considered.

Experience:
Req! uired: Minimum of one year experience in a customer service related position. One year of PC experience, working knowledge of Windows and prefer MS Word Applications.

Knowledge/skills/abilities:
Excellent communication skills with all types of individuals

Verbal and written fluency in English

Excellent organizational and written skills

Ability to type minimum 40 wpm with above average accuracy

Ability to operate window-based applications on an IMB compatible PC, copier, fax, phone, and headset

Job requires continuous reading skills and the ability to handle a heavy volume of work
