  • Works under
close supervision and is accountable for own nursing practice while assessing,
planni! ng, implementing and evaluating the nursing care required to meet the
holistic needs of the patient.

  • Applies the
principles of growth and development to the care of patients of all ages.

  • Demonstrates
competency within the scope of relevant, current, and evidence based Clinical
Practice Guidelines under the supervision/guidance of Stroke Specialists

  • Conducts
advanced comprehensive patient assessment

  • Actively
engages community/public health information to enhance knowledge of services,

availability to referrals and
coordination of care

  • Engages in
initial period of training with emphasis on education and hands on training
with mentor (Clinical Stroke Specialist)

  • Will be lead
member on Stroke Code Team

  • Evaluation
of all patients that present to ED with n! eurological symptoms suggestive of
stroke during the train! ing period

  • Will
continue to be first notified when ED aware of patient meeting stroke triage criteria

  • During
training period then will be on call when Stroke Physician is not available
after 5pm and during the weekend. Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm will always
be the first person notified and perform the initial assessment and transmit
information to the Stroke physician

  • Will have
one weekend of call per month

  • Stroke call
coverage plus care of patient in Stroke Center

REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of
an approved school of practical nursing required.

  • At least two
(2) years' experience working at a level of advanced practice

  • Current
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license from the State of Nebraska

  • BLS certification; ACLS
certification; NIHSS certification
