The OR Service Line Coordinator (ORSLC) Physician Assistant (PA) will supervis! e a surgical service line by coordinating resources in partnership with fellow ORSLCs, Surgeons, Materials Management and Sterile Processing. The ORLSC PA will support the Director and OR manager within a specific service line to coordinate the evaluation, ordering, and implementation of equipment and supplies and will work collaboratively with the Sterile Processing Department. The ORSLC PA will assist service line physicians as needed.

Essential Duties:
Operational duties

Provides assistance to service line surgeons as needed:
assists in surgical cases when personal PAs or scrubs are unavailable

researches and coordinates the implementation of new procedures or surgical approaches

improves quality and efficiency on behalf of surgeons

assists in the pre/post-surgical assessment as requested

Assumes daily responsibility to coordinate and monitor utilization of personnel. He/she will work with the OR! manager and/or Director to validate effective staffing for ca! ses but will understand and work toward meeting Solucient staffing ratios.

Coordinates with the Sterile Processing manager, vendors and surgeon offices for specific surgical case needs.

Works with materials management staff, sterile processing staff and CST/Resource to supervise the inventory of specialty items, check outdates on products, and talk to product representatives about costs and requested products.

Assists CST/Resource in evaluation of surgeon requests for new instruments.

Assists where needed (control desk, scheduling, circulating cases) in addition to rotation.

Formulates specialty team call schedule monthly (coordinate with entire OR schedule) if needed.

Assists the OR Board Scheduler with daily specialty team assignments.

Works with the OR manager to validate KRONOS.

Works with Director to understand and support purchasing contracts, inventory objectives and budgeting processes.

! Works with CST/Resource and Billing & Documentation specialist on preference cards and preference card changes.

Coordinates with other ORSLCs regarding staff needs, issues, education, etc.

Acts as a liaison for nursing peer review and yearly peer evaluation follow up.

Clinical supervision

Provides input into the hiring process.

Supervises staff working in his/her established service lines to insure clinical and behavioral excellence.

Works with the OR Clinical Manager to establish progressive goal completion for staff and will consult on annual reviews.

Physician Relationships

Has the responsibility and accountability to work in collaboration with his/her surgeon(s)/surgeon specialty groups to identify required equipment and new procedures for their surgical service line

Is the “go to person” for the surgeon when he/she has issues that need to be resolved regarding equipment, personal pref! erence cards or staffing issues.

Identifies educational needs ! for their team and surgeons and facilitates these educational opportunities.

Takes accountability for the successful start up of new surgeons and/or procedures

Productivity and Quality

Is knowledgeable and understand surgical standards, policies and procedures and validate team members are following them appropriately

Continually reviews patient care and implements change to ensure compliance with established standards of nursing care as well as Medicare/Medicaid guidelines and JCAHO standards

Collaborates with the Education Coordinator to identify and/or facilitate staff orientation, education and in-services as they relate to surgical cases.

Professionalism

Is knowledgeable and supportive of the Organization’s, Co-Management’s and Director’s strategic goals and initiatives.

Supports administrative initiatives, programs and changes by disseminate information, educating and helping staff make prac! tice changes as required.

Inspires others in professional goal attainment and is supportive of the OR Shared Governance model.

Promotes servant leadership and utilize the individual talents of his/her team to maximize the success of patient care and the strategic goals of the organization.

Actively pursues evidence-based practice

Provides leadership to the service line team through coaching and mentoring. Encourages staff to obtain advanced degrees, advance in the RN clinical ladder and AORN certifications.

Qualifications

Education:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Physician Assistance.

PREFFERED: Acute care and/or Trauma Course preferred.

Licensure:!
Active Nebraska (or multi-state compact) License. Individual is responsible to maintain a current license.

CPR certification within 3 months of employment.

BCLS and ACLS required.

PREFERRED: Cardiac Monitoring Course (Basic Arrhythmia) preferred.

Experience:
2 years experience in an acute care surgical setting.

Organizational leadership training (Leadership University and/or Emerging Leaders) within 2 years.
