DUTIES:
This position is located in the Extended Care

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Service.

This position assumes administrative and professional responsibility for the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs at the Omaha division providing direct supervisory responsibility over a diverse staff of licensed physical therapists, licensed occupational therapists, licensed physical therapy assistants, a licensed occupational therapy assistant and a physical therapy health technician.

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the delivery of physical and occupational therapy services

Insures that EEO standards and policies are observed

Actively recruits and interviews candidates for departmental vacancies

Directs and coordinates quality improvement projects and initiatives utilizing the formal performance improvement processes of the ! NWIHCS

Responsible for the collection, compilation, and analys! is of appropriate data required for reports, strategic planning, workload, staffing/productivity and budget as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.

Identifies equipment and supply needs and projects these needs into an adequate budget request.

Conducts departmental staff meetings and leads departmental inservice/training.

Assists the Director of Rehabilitation with contract oversight and processes.

Actively participates on Rehabilitation Leadership Team

Provides leadership with the evaluation, program planning, treatment, and discharge planning of patients requiring physical and occupational therapy services.

Assures that ongoing treatment is provided in the clinic areas and that adequate/appropriate staffing levels are maintained

Demonstrates knowledge of a wide range of concepts, principles and practice in the field of rehabilitation.

Consults with staff physicians, nurses and other health care! team members through patient presentations and attendance at appropriate rounds/meetings, clinics and conferences.

Assists Director of Rehabilitation with processing and oversight of Non VA therapy consults as required.

Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Education

: Graduate from a degree program in physical therapy from an approved college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy programs. Verification of accredited programs may be obtained from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Web site, or at their office address: Am! erican Physical Therapy Association, 1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexand! ria, VA 22314-1488, 703-684-2782, or 800-999-2782. Foreign Graduates. Graduates of foreign physical therapy programs meet the requirements in subparagraph 2b if they have a full unrestricted and current license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Any PT who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probational status may be appointed only in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health or designee.

Education, Experience, and Licensure. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include: Knowledge of contemporary physical therapy across multiple areas of practice, and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to provide clinical guidance to Staff PTs within the department; knowledge of human resources administration, including such functions as the ability to interview and select qualified applicants, monitor and evaluate performance, and maintain effective labor management relations within scope of responsibility; ability to effectively supervise, direct, and manage a diverse physical therapy staff; skill in interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution; Ability to analyze clinically appropriate data effectively to optimize quality, performance, and productivity within the secti! on.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
