The RN2 is the competent nurse. RN2 is able to apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients, has m! astered specialized techniques and is skilled in setting priorities. At the time of hire, an experienced nurse will be placed in the RN2 Level. Experienced nurse is defined as having a minimum equivalent of two years full time RN employment in a hospital or a clinical setting with direct patient care responsibilities within the past two years. Internal candidates with one year of current acute care experience are eligible to advance to RN2 in the Differentiated Practice Model.
The RN2 is expected to meet the job description of RN1 in addition to the following duties and responsibilities.
Registered Nurse is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients. The Registered Nurse demonstrates competency in nursing practice as outlined in the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. The Registered Nurse must be trained to provide care for patients of all ages with additional education focusing on treatment and care of patients in thei! r primary department.
A supplemental associate will b! e required to work a minimum of 120 hours, various hours/shifts over a six month period.

Essential Duties
:
Provider:
Uses interdisciplinary resources to implement plans of care to promote patient self-care.
Adapts nursing interventions to promote desired outcomes.
Integrates experience and interdisciplinary expertise to establish therapeutic relationships.
Evaluates outcomes of plans of care with individual/family.
Recognizes examples of use of evidence/resear! ch based practice and shares information from nursing journals during staff meetings, practice councils and/or care conferences.
Teacher:
Identifies educational needs and implements teaching plan for individual/family.
Selects teaching plans for individual/family.
Evaluates individual/family learning through the use of established criteria and modifies plans.
Advocate:
Assesses individual/family level of understanding of their rights and responsibilities as healthcare consumers, and provides opportunities for participation in decision making.
Uses knowledge of value systems to plan care for the individual/family.
Professional/Leader:
Increases knowledge about the ethical/legal/professional values of nursing guided by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
Contributes to the caring environment in the workplace.
Adheres to policies/standards from professional and/! or specialty organizations into the practice setting.
Promotes! an environment conducive to collegial relationships.
Minimum 6 hours continuing education per year beyond hospital mandatory education.
Participates in unit SAM councils, hospital committees, unit project work, preceptor, mentor, team coordinator, national certification, professional organizations or community volunteerism-
minimum 1.
Clinical Skills:
Demonstrates expanded clinical skills related to the area of clinical practice.

Qualifications
Education:
A graduate of an accredited school of nursing (AD, Diploma, Baccalaureate).
A BSN must be obtained within 5 years of hire.
Licensure/Certification:
Current Nebraska Registered Nurse license.
Experience/Pre-Requisites:
Equivalent of 2 years current full time RN experience in the acute care setting.
Internal candidates must ! have completed 1 year of acute care experience and successfully petition to advance to RN2 in the Differentiated Practice Model.
Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the Healthcare Provider.
Must possess a current ACLS certification or obtain within six months of hire.
