This is a part time position working 40 hours per two week pa! y period , day/evening shifts. This position will have a weekend and holiday requirement. This position assists the professional nursing staff with procedures and routine nursing assistant duties within the Burn Center. This person acts under the direction of the Nurse Director and the Registered Professional Nurse. Emphasis is placed on wound care and assisting with procedures. The Burn Tech provides support for the direct management of the patient's environment and activities of daily living under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Burn Tech also performs general clerical duties. Willingness to be called in for emergencies should be considered an asset. Understanding, integrating and communicating the Mission of the hospital will be highly stressed. This person must be trained to provide assessment, treatment or care for patients of all ages with additional education focused on treatment and care of patients in their primary department.

The Nursi! ng Assistant II also performs general clerical duties includin! g contributing to maintenance of the patient record and accurate patient charges.

Essential Job Functions:
Provides wound care and assists with procedures.

Provides wound care and dressing as ordered.

Assists set up for procedures including bronchoscope, central line insertion, escharatomies, arterial lines, chest tubes and wound debridements.

Assists the nursing staff to maintain a therapeutic, safe and clean environment in the cleaning and preparation of equipment, treatm! ent rooms and patient rooms.

Cleans and prepares treatment room for all procedures.

Cleans bronchoscope according to procedure.

Cleans and maintains all equipment in the clean hold area and storage room.

Cleans refrigerators in the staff lounge and nurses station weekly.

Assists the nursing staff in replenishing needed supplies as they are used, or as they are outdated.

Restocks treatment rooms after each usage.

Stocks patient rooms, bronch cart and emergency eye tray daily and after patient use.

Restocks pharmacy supplies daily.

Participates in patient’s immediate environment.

Participates in patient nutrition.

Prepares patient rooms for admission.

Participates in patient’s activities of daily living, ordered therapies, and provides clinical support within level of preparation.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the ! physical, psychosocial, safety and related criteria appropriate to the ! age of the patients served.

Works directly with patient in planning and implementing patient’s activities of daily living including but not limited to: bathing, hygiene, ambulation, transporting, pre- and post-op care, and dismissal functions to promote and maintain health.

Adheres to Nursing Structure and Process Standards and the patient’s plan of care in providing patient care.

Performs selected procedures and treatments.

Orients the patient and family to the room, department, policies, and schedules.

Assists the Nurse to maintain observations of patients by anticipating and responding to patient needs and processing call lights.

Ensures that the Nurse remains informed of patient status and activities.

Documents routine elements of care in the medical record.

Collects and documents patient data.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Participates in the patient discharge as directed! by the physician.

Customer Service:
Receives, greets and directs patients, family members, clients, visitors and physicians in a positive and conscientious manner adhering to our Embrace the Spirit standards and behaviors. Problem-solve, offer and give assistance as needed.

Acknowledging internal and external customers with eye contact and a smile.

Phones are answered promptly with a friendly voice using a proper greeting.

Ability to prioritize, organize and effectively handle multiple tasks and interruptions in a positive manner.

For those secured areas (NICU, Pediatrics and Newborn Nursery), adherence to unit specific security policies.

Qualifications

Education:
High School graduate or equivalent required.

Medical Terminology preferred.

Approved Certified Nurse Assistant Course (CNA) or medical school ! student.

Approved training for clerical/unit secretary functio! ns.

Licensure/Certification:
Currently on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry â€" a newly licensed RN/LPN may continue to work in that capacity until scheduled into hospital nursing orientation.

Currently on the Medication Aide Registry (only as related to administration of oxygen) or obtain training, complete competency and be registered on the Medication Aide Registry within 30 days of hire.

Maintain Medication Aide Registry status with demonstrated competency every two years.

Current completion of CPR for the Healthcare Provider (BLS).

Maintain CNA certification including 12 continuing education hours (720 minutes) per year required.

Current students taking health-related course of study will meet the continuing education requirement with successful completion of at least 3 credit hours.

Courses in LEARN will count towards meeting this requirement, including but not limited to Rapid Regs and Corporate! Compliance courses.

It is the associate’s responsibility to provide documentation of the education required.

Experience/Pre-Requisites:
Prior Nurse Assistant experience preferred.

Must be able to work from detailed verbal or written instructions and uses judgment for routine situations.

Attention to detail.

Good work attendance and work habits.

Good personal hygiene.

Courtesy in dealing with others.
