The Mid-Level Provider is licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Emergency Department, and in communication with the Midlevel Provider Coordinator and the Nursing Director of the Emergency Department, the Mid-Level Provider initiates and manages the medical treatment of patients seeking health care evaluation and treatment.

Essential Duties:
1.

Obtain from the patient pertinent medical and psycho-social history, perform physical examination, determine patient’s mental status, and perform appropriate diagnostic tests.

2.

Records the patient’s chief complaint, presenting symptoms, objective findings, assessment and plan of care in a concise and legible manner.

3.

Analyze information obtained from the history, physical examination, and testing to establish patient dia! gnosis.

4.

Consults with the physician regar! ding chief complaints that fall into categories that would indicate a need for a second opinion, confirmation of diagnosis, and/or treatment/admission by a physician.

For example:
a.

Whenever situations arise which go beyond the scope of practice/experience of the mid-level provider.

b.

Emergent conditions requiring prompt medical interventions, after initial stabilizing care has been started.

c.

Acute decompensation of the patient situation.

d.

A problem that is not resolving as anticipated.

e.

Unexplainable historical, physical or laboratory findings.

f.

Upon request of the patient, mid-level provider, or physician.

5.

Initiates pharmacological therapy as indicated for appropriate treatment.

6.

Perform minor surgical therapies or procedures.

7.

Provide the patient with appropriate patient education reg! arding diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, utilizing patient after care instruction sheets

8.

Confers with the patient, patient’s family, appropriate health professionals, and refer patients as necessary to appropriate sources of care.

9.

Dictates the patient’s chief complaint, presenting symptoms, objective findings, assessment and plan of treatment with the chart being co-signed by the Emergency Department physician on duty.

10.

Requires high degree of concentration on variable operations with frequent interruptions.

11.

Requires ability to influence physicians, patients, visitors and staff, and sometimes difficult and disturbing situations.

12.

Constant contact with patients, physicians, staff, and public.

Frequent contact with patient service areas.

Requires the ability to influence people.

Tactful consideration is necessary.

Continuous stand! ing and walking required.

13.

Demonstrates the abilit! y to be an intricate part of the health care team, working closely with the Emergency Department and hospital staff.

14.

Engage in community, civic, charitable, and professional activities as part of mandatory professional growth.

15.

Works closely with the Emergency Department staff and others, such as police officers, paramedics, EMTs, and clerical staff to meet patient needs.

16.

Assist with periodic inservices for network technicians, nurses, and other personnel.

17.

Assist with orientation of new mid-level providers as requested.

18.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

19.

Maintain professional demeanor at all times.

20.

Attend and participate in staff meetings.

21.

Attend any educational seminars as requested.

22.

Read and comply with all policies and procedures and personnel policies as stated.

23.
Understand and demonstrate compliance with HIPAA regulations.

24.

Understand and demonstrate the twelve (12) behavior standards for “Embrace the Spirit”.

25.

Understand and demonstrate the seven (7) “Standards of Conduct” as defined in “Our Values and Ethics at Work” reference guide.

Qualifications

Education:
Graduate from an accredited program for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.

Experience:
1 year work experience preferred.

License/Certification:
Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in this state.

Current BLS certification required.
