Resource Employee


 

The University of Southern California Career Center is seeking an experienced temporary and part-time Career Advisor - Resource Employee for the Career Engagement team. The incumbent will advise diverse undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates.

The USC Career Center represents over 140 academic majors across campus with various career interests and goals. The ideal candidate will have experience advising students and recent graduates through appointments and drop-ins. The incumbent will demonstrate professionalism and strong written and verbal communication skills while advising students and recent graduates on the following career-related topics:

  • Investigate career paths, strategize internship, and job searches
  • Develop competitive resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles

    Prepare for interviews and networking and negotiate internship and job offers
  • Educate students on the career development process and managing career transitions

This is an approximately two-month assignment working part-time (up to 20 hours per week) as a resource employee. 6-8 weeks of the semester.

Start Date: August 21, 2023

End Date: October 13, 2023

Resource employees are not eligible to receive benefits except for the exception basic disability and workers’ compensation, and sick time accrual.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Advise domestic and international students and alumni through in-person, phone, and online appointments
  • Determine the advising needs of individuals and collaborate to develop action plans
  • Interpret career assessments, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and other assessment tools
  • Present career workshops to student groups and classrooms

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Human Resources, Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field

Experience & Skills:

  • Career advising at college/university setting
  • Provide excellent customer service to diverse student and alumni populations
  • Strong working knowledge of career development best practices for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Multicultural competencies: the ability to work with diverse populations, skilled in communicating effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy
  • Manage confidential information following FERPA and HIPPA regulations
  • Serve as a motivated and collaborative team player with exceptional multi-tasking skills and a positive attitude

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Field of Expertise: Related education and experience in career services and student advising

Experience: One year of experience in career advising and career services

The hourly rate range for this position is $33.00.
