Within the University, the Marketing and Recruitment division comprises three sections: UniMarketing, Web and Schools and Community Engagement. The Division is responsible for leading brand perception and fostering positive relationships with future students and their influencers, through:
- the provision of information to future students, influencers and careers advisors via the University’s website, advertising, publications, and events with an understanding of tone and messaging that connects with specific audiences including Māori
- the development and management of the Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland brand and reputation
- the recruitment of high-achieving undergraduate and postgraduate students
- careful handling of issues underpinned by cultural intelligence across a range of channels and formats.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Designer to join our Brand Team as part of UniMarketing.
The Brand Team guides, promotes and drives the University brand by designing impactful collateral, leading recruitment campaigns and market research projects and creating activations that bring our brand to life.
As well as leading the in-house studio in the development of a powerful and consistent visual profile for the University, the Senior Designer also provides brand advisory to stakeholders across the University.
You will be working strategically alongside the Brand Manager to liaise with and understand stakeholders needs, which will inform design decisions, and build the profile of the University. This will be achieved by taking the lead in the development and execution of engaging collateral for multiple audiences across a range of platforms including digital, social media and marketing automation.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent opportunity.
The remuneration is $66,600 - $82,200 per annum, dependant on skills and experience.

He kōrero mōu | About you
The successful candidate will be an experienced graphic designer with strong digital design skills, who is looking for an opportunity to work in a strategic role. We are looking for someone who is passionate about marketing and comfortable with being a go-to for stakeholder advisory.
You will be well versed in creating innovative design solutions and working collaboratively. Our ideal candidate will have strong leadership qualities and be excited to provide mentorship to our community of designers.
This is an in-house role that requires strong soft skills and enthusiasm for working through the nitty-gritty with stakeholders and team members.
You will have:
- A relevant tertiary level design qualification.
- 5-10 years’ commercial experience as a designer.
- An excellent understanding of digital design and its optimal application.
- An excellent understanding of the print production and pre-press processes.
- Experience in photography and art direction.
- Advanced commercial skills, especially in the latest InDesign CS, Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, Acrobat Professional (post scripting/PDF’ing), and Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience and knowledge of production systems required to run a busy graphic design team.
