The Staff Education Coordinator is responsible for following the nursing process to assess, identify, develop, implement, and evaluate staff educational needs for ongoing training, high risk nursing procedures, assessment, physician communication, implementation of annual mandatory training, tracking and assignment of ACLS and PALS certification. Teach, track, and monitor BLS review and certification for team-members with direct patient contact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for the implementation and management of th! e Employee Education Health Stream computer system.
2. Eff! ectively facilitate and/or delegate the Staff Competency Program.
3. Assures nursing research and theory are incorporated into education programming.
4. Uses innovative and effective teaching strategies to achieve cognitive and behavioral changes in participants attending programs.
5. Establishes, reviews, and revises staff development policies and procedures to meet regulations and accreditation.
6. Serves as a resource for nursing staff regarding professional practice standards, Nebraska State Board of Nursing regulations and opinion statements.
7. Assures that the educational programs support the quality improvement initiatives of nursing and patient safety.
8. Keeps documentation of educational activities and participation and shares with appropriate managers and staff.
9. May be requested to prepare periodic reports on the activities of the department to the QI Committee.
10. Shares professional knowledge and experience to ensure that co! rrect method and techniques are taught consistently.
11. Oversees the preceptor program - the preceptor should serve as a professional role model, advocate, and teammate during orientation.
12. Maintains and updates self-knowledge base including clinical skills, educational techniques, and regulatory requirements for meeting State, CMS, and accreditation.
13. Contributes to updating orientation manuals and evaluation tools.
14. Provide regular updates to the Director of Nursing Services.
15. Assists in departmental budget preparation and contains expenditures within the stated budge.
16. Involvement in planning for growth and improvement to LSH through leadership in developing shared governance, preceptorship program, CMS quality initiatives, and LSH Continuing Education provider units.
QUALIFICATIONS
An RN licensed in the State of Nebraska, preferably a BSN degree. Have a valid CPR teaching certificate.
A minimum of four years ! as a registered nurse in a clinical setting. Prefer acute care medical-! surgical and/or intensive care experience. Must be knowledgeable about adult education and learning principles.
