This is a part time, benefit eligible position working 40 hours per fourteen day pay period. Scheduled for nights and evenings during the week, and every third weekend nights.
The Registered Nurse is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients. The Registered Nurse demonstrates competency in nursing practice as outl! ined in the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. The Registered Nurse ! must be trained to provide care for patients of all ages with additional education focusing on treatment and care of patients in their primary department.
Previous nursing experience is preferred.
Position is scheduled for evening/night shifts through the week and a night shift every third weekend.
Essential Duties:
RN II, RN III, RN IV and RN V are expected to meet the position description of RN I in addition to the duties and responsibilities for the highest level of differentiated practice that they have achieved.
RN Level I
The RN I is a novice nurse. The Registered Nurse is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients. The Registered Nurse demonstrates competency in nursing practice as outlined in the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. The Registered Nurse must be trained to provide care for patients of all ages with additional education focusing on treatment and care of patient! s in their primary department.
RN Level II
The RN II is the competent nurse. RN II is able to apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients, has mastered specialized techniques and is skilled in setting priorities. External candidates with 2 years full time employment as RN in a hospital or a clinical setting with direct patient care responsibilities can be hired into the RN II level. Internal candidates with one year of current acute care experience are eligible to advance to RN II in the Differentiated Practice Model.
Provider:
RN I
Utilizes the nursing process to assess and prioritize patient needs.
Formulates, implements and evaluates the patient's plan of care. Adjusts plan of care in consultation with the RN Team Coordinator as appropriate and implements plan.
Uses basic communication skills to provide care to assigned patients/families. Relays pertinent information through appropriate documentatio! n and referral to other health care team members such as medicine, diet! ary and support staff. Initiates discharge planning working in collaboration with the Case Manager as appropriate.
Initiates appropriate nursing action in crisis or emergency situations.
Carries out physician orders.
Provides continuity of care to meet the patient's changing needs.
Records information on the patient record in accordance with charting guidelines.
Utilizes time management principles and techniques.
Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments.
Recognizes examples of use of evidence/research based practice-at performance appraisal presents journal article supporting a specific approach to a nursing care problem.
RN II
Uses interdisciplinary resources to implement plans of care to promote patient self-care.
Adapts nursing interventions to promote desired outcomes.
Integrates experience and interdisciplinary expertise to establish the! rapeutic relationships.
Evaluates outcomes of plans of care with individual/family.
Recognizes examples of use of evidence/research based practice and shares information from nursing journals during staff meetings, practice councils and/or care conferences.
Teacher:
RN I
Uses available teaching aids to implement teaching plans of assigned patients and revises the plan based on evaluation of effectiveness.
RN II
Identifies educational needs and implements teaching plan for individual/family.
Selects teaching plans for individual/family.
Evaluates individual/family learning through the use of established criteria and modifies plans.
Advocate:
RN I
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
Respects the rights of patients and significant others.
Responsible for reporting and/or correcting potent! ial patient safety conditions or practices.
RN II
Ass! esses individual/family level of understanding of their rights and responsibilities as healthcare consumers, and provides opportunities for participation in decision making.
Uses knowledge of value systems to plan care for the individual/family.
Professional/Leader:
RN I
Demonstrates knowledge about the ethical, legal, professional values of nursing, guided by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
Demonstrates positive communication/problem solving skills.
Assists RN Team Coordinator with coordination of patient care and appropriate utilization of services through use of clinical pathways.
Utilizes time management principles and techniques.
Effectively delegates to all levels of staff in collaboration with RN Team Coordinator based on their scope of practice, job descriptions, abilities and patient/unit needs.
Works to maintain positive team relationships with co-workers, physicians! , and other members of the health care team.
Supports Performance Improvement and Patient Safety activities at the unit/organizational level.
RN II
Increases knowledge about the ethical/legal/professional values of nursing guided by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
Contributes to the caring environment in the workplace.
Adheres to policies/standards from professional and/or specialty organizations into the practice setting.
Promotes an environment conducive to collegial relationships.
Minimum 6 hours continuing education per year beyond hospital mandatory education.
Participates in hospital committees, unit project work, preceptor, mentor, team coordinator, national certification, professional organizations or community volunteerism-
minimum 1.
Clinical Skills:
The clinical skills below apply to RN I, RN II, RN III, RN IV and RN V.
Demonstrates progre! ssive clinical skills related to the area of clinical practice and refl! ective of the level to which the RN has advanced.
Participates in unit related committees, in-services and staff meetings.

Qualifications
Education:
A graduate of an accredited school of nursing (AD, Diploma, Baccalaureate).
Obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire.
Licensure/Certification:
A valid Registered Nurse license is required.
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
Strongly encouraged to achieve Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) after 2 years of emergency nursing experience.
Trauma Nurse Certification Course (TNCC) strongly encouraged after 2 years of emergency nursing experience.
Experience/Pre-Requisites:
RN I
Entry level nursing skills.
Previous clinical experience desirable, but not essential.
Differentiated Practice advancement is encouraged.
RN II
Equivalent of 2 years current full time RN experience in the acute care setting.
Internal candidates must have completed 1 year of acute care experience and successfully petition to advance to RN II in the Differentiated Practice Model.
External candidate with 2 years full time employment as RN in a hospital or a clinical setting with direct patient care responsibilities can be hired into the RN II level.
