Conifer Health Solutions is seeking a DRG Coordinator to work full time at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Previous Coding experience needed.

General Summary

Facilitates improvement in the overall quality, completeness and accuracy of medical record documentation. Provides direction in DRG and APR-DRG assignment through extensive interaction with Clinical Documentation Specialists, physicians, nursing staff, other patient caregivers, and Health Information Management codi! ng staff to ensure the clinical documentation reflects the lev! el of service rendered to patients and is complete and accurate. Educates all members of the patient care team on documentation guidelines as they relate to compliant coding guidelines and policies on an ongoing basis.

Reports directly to the Operations Director of Medical Records. Works collaboratively with all staff to achieve the goals of Alegent Health, Performance Improvement Department, and Revenue Cycle Management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitates overall quality, completeness, and compliance of medical record documentation

Works with the Clinical Documentation Specialists as needed to facilitate appropriate clinical documentation to ensure that the level of services and acuity of care are accurately reflected in the medical record.

Improves the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation and coding by conducting DRG and APC assurance audits for specific patient populations using clinical documentation and coding guidelines.

Conducts follow up reviews of clinical documentation and coding to ensure points clarified wi! th the physicians, Clinical Documentation Specialists, and coders have ! been recorded and then appropriately coded.

Reviews coding issues with the clinical staff to assign a working DRG.

Demonstrates knowledge of DRG payor issues, documentation requirements and strategies.

Provides consultative support in the areas of clinical coding and documentation integrity.

Establishes and maintains coding policies and procedures for system-wide compliance based on quarterly issues of the AHA's Coding Clinic.

Provides on call coverage on all metro campuses.

Data Collection/Analysis

Researches, analyzes data and reports trends in severity score assignments, DRG pair ratios, and other case mix topics.

Education

Assesses Clinical Documentation Specialists' learning needs; provides DRG education to appropriate stakeholders, including physicians, Clinical Documentation Specialists, and coders, in all facilities.

Educates all internal customers on clinical documentation opp! ortunities, coding and reimbursement issues.

Develops and conducts ongoing coding education for new staff, including new case managers, coders, physicians, nursing and allied health professionals.

Publishes and edits APC and DRG newsletters.

Serves as a member of the Clinical Documentation Management Program (CDMP) Task Force.

Demonstrates self-directed learning and participates in continuing education for professional development.

Complies with established departmental and organizational policies, procedures and objectives concerning coding, DRG assignment, APR-DRG assignment, and reimbursement.

Performs other duties as assigned and directed.

Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.

Demonstrates work practices consistent with Alegent Health and department-specific safety, security and infection contr! ol policies.

Qualifications!

Experience

Four years of progressive hospital coding experience as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).

Strong emphasis on critical thinking and a well developed understanding of diagnostic testing and surgical procedures.

Education / Licensure Required

Bachelor degree plus credentials of RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Job requires basic to moderate skills in reading, verbal and written communication.

Strong leadership and critical reasoning skills in decision-making.

Planning and organizing, initiative and ingenuity, creativity, independent decision-making, problem solving, and ability to interpret data.

Public relations and promotion of positive morale are important.

Computer skills are necessary.
