The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive care for the pediatric patient through direct medical/nursing care in collabora! tion with the physician to include:

health promotion, health supervision. Illness prevention and diagnosis, treatment and management of various health problems and conditions.

The APRN/NP is a clinical expert, mentor and educator, leader, collaborator and researcher.

Essential Functions/Competencies

Provides non-urgent, urgent and sometimes emergent medical comprehensive management of the pediatric emergency patient at the APRN/PA level, including assessment of injury or illness, identification and diagnosis of problem, complete and accurate chart documentation, and development of individualized plan of care.

Prescribes therapeutic measures and medications according to the State of Nebraska APRN/PA statutes.

Performs selective invasive procedures, as approved in his/her individualized Scope of Service, according to the Children’s Hospital credentialin! g policy.

Serves as a role m! odel in the advanced practice role for the provision of pediatric emergency care.

4.

Uses sound medical/clinical judgment during care for the pediatric patient including consultation/collaboration with emergency physicians, use of practice protocols as a guide, and documentation of assessment, interventions, and patient response to treatment

5.

Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice to improve patient care including recommending ways to improve clinical practice, participation in related educational activities, participation in professional organizations and performance improvement teams, and incorporation of new clinical information into practice.
