This position is located in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service.
An Intermittent physician assi! stant position is available in the Ambulatory Care section of ! the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service at the Omaha VA.
The selected candidate will provide care for employees and/or a population of patients across the spectrum of care to assure all care is timely, evidence based appropriate, of high quality and cost effective within the realm of Primary care and Occupational Health.
The selected candidate will perform other duties to be determined based upon VA mission needs.
The selected candidate must be willing to travel to clinics in Bellevue and Shenandoah, Iowa as needed.
The selected candidate will have a variable tour of duty, rotating shifts to include early morning and evening hours with weekend and holiday coverage.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

English Language Proficiency: Medical personnel appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Education: As a PA, you must have (1) A bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or (2) Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or (3) Gradu! ation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which i! s certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.
Certification: As of March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date.
Registration: The Physician Assistant (PA) must also maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a PA in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The PA must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with the VA.
Education Note: Education must be accredited by an ac! crediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to 35 pounds for 8-12 hours, intermittently, moderate carrying (15-35 pounds) for 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Pa! tient Handling Policy except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient care, pulling for 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, pushing for 8-12 hours, intermittently, reaching above the shoulders for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both hands required, walking 8-12 hours, intermittently, standing 8-12 hours intermittently, kneeling 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, repeated bending for 8-12 hours, intermittently, climbing and use of both legs and arms for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both legs required, near vision at 13 to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing aid permitted, twisting, simply grasp and fine manipulation.
